This adaptation of Paulo Coelho’s internationally best selling book was another Cornish Theatre Collective production in partnership with James Seabright. It toured across the UK five times and was a very successful show indeed. The story follows Santiago on his quest which begins in Andalucia, caries him across North Africa and takes him to the pyramids of Egypt. I loved doing the music for this show and immersed myself in Arabic music for a couple of months. I even paid a visit to Morocco and brought myself a darabuka.
Here’s Lyn Gardener’s review from the Guardian:
"A genuinely transporting experience, they create theatrical alchemy… Not so much the message of the story, as the telling of it that counts here, and the Cornish Theatre Collective do it with a captivating simplicity. The company's work demonstrates a rare and risky ability to be wide-eyed, charming and almost naïve without being in the slightest bit fey. It is artfully artless. A delightful, unexpected treat."
